New Whiskey Releases This Week – 3/15/24

Here’s a look at a few of the new whiskey releases (and other spirits) announced this week.

Maverick Distilling Agave Reposado

Maverick Spirits New Reposado Single Barrel

San Antonio’s Maverick Distilling recently brought out its “Texas take on tequila.” Samuel Maverick Tricentennial Edition Agave Reposado is a very limited release (185 bottles) honoring Texas Independence Day.

Pricing: SRP: $75

Availability: Only sold at Maverick Distilling in downtown San Antonio, steps from the Alamo.

Age: The 100% organic blue agave spent two years and two months in oak barrels previously used for Maverick Whiskey.

Lux Row Rebel 100 6-Year Bourbon

Lux Row Distillers has used the same wheated whiskey recipe since 1849 and is bringing out an extra-aged bourbon.

Pricing: SRP $59.99 per 750 ml bottle

ABV: 50%

Availability: Nationwide

Tasting Notes (from the distillery): The golden amber bourbon features an aroma containing rich scents of vanilla and honey; a palate of dark fruits followed by citrus and oak; and a velvety smooth finish with just a hint of spice.

“Rebel 100 6-Year demonstrates that age is never a bad thing. The combination of spotlighting our original recipe and aging it for six years resulted in a rich and rebellious, full flavor bourbon that I think will resonate with consumers. Six years is a long time to wait, but the wait was worth it.”

Old Forester High Angel's Share

Old Forester has a new entry in its limited edition 117 Series. High Angels’ Share is “the result of low-yield barrels, providing consumers with a taste of this specific facet of the aging process, and resulting in a rich, layered concentration.”

ABV: 55%

SRP: Old Forester Distillery at $59.99 per 375 ml bottle at the Old Forester Distillery in Louisville and at their online store in a two-bottle set for $119.98.

Tasting Notes (from the distillery):

Color: Burnt orange

Aroma: Rich caramelized citrus peel, brown sugar, oak and pumpkin spice

Taste: Caramel, lightly charred oak, sweet coconut, citrus peel with a hint of spice

Finish: Long caramelized citrus

“When walking into our aging warehouses, the aroma of evaporating whiskey is immediately evident. That smell is commonly called Angels’ Share – the angels taking their portion of the bourbon. Barrels with high evaporation concentrate flavors. We are pleased to bring those flavors directly to consumers through this unique bottle.”

Kentucky Peerless Distilling Toasted Bourbon Batch 1

Kentucky Peerless Distilling in Louisville has released its Toasted Bourbon Batch 1 that is aged in two separate oak barrels.

ABV:54%

SRP: $69.99

Availability: At the Louisville distillery and in limited quantities in select markets.

Tasting Notes (from the distillery): A bourbon that pays homage to the bottles that collected dust for years with distinct notes of butterscotch and creamy caramel.

“We hand-select each barrel for the finishing process. We chose to use a medium toast because it contains less tannins, which results in a more aromatic whiskey with warm, sweet, savory character and strong vanilla overtones."

Pursuit Spirits Double Oaked Bourbon

Louisville’s Pursuit Spirits has released its new Double Oaked Bourbon that has a secondary finishing using French oak medium toasted staves.

ABV:54%

SRP: $69.99

Availability: At the Louisville distillery and in limited quantities in select markets.

Tasting Notes (from the distillery): A bourbon that pays homage

to the bottles that collected dust for years with distinct notes of butterscotch and creamy

caramel.

"As longtime fans of vintage whiskey, we wanted to craft something truly special that gave a nodto the best bottles we've been lucky enough to try over the years. This double oaked release encapsulates part of that nostalgic flavor profile but in a modern, premium bourbon experience."

"Whisky is liquid sunshine."

George Bernard Shaw

“The light music of whiskey falling into a glass – an agreeable interlude.”
