I don’t know if there is such a thing as the “wheated mash bill envelope.” But if there is, our friends at Bardstown Bourbon Company are definitely pushing it.
The Kentucky distillery recently announced its High Wheat Bourbon. The aptly named bourbon weights in with an astonishing 39 percent wheat in its mash bill.
In addition, you’ll be able to buy the new wheater as part of the Origin Series Experience Tasting Kit, which is going on sale before the holidays. The 50-ml bottle collection (in gift packaging) will have an SRP of $34.99 and will include:
- Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey
- Wheated Bottled-in-Bond
- Double-Barreled Rye Whiskey
- High Wheat Bourbon
Bardstown Bourbon Co High Wheat Bourbon
Age: 6 years
Mash Bill: 53 % corn, 39 % wheat, 8 % malted barley
Tasting notes (from the distillery): “Imbued with ripe apricot and lemon, resting on leather and crème brûlée on the nose. A bold palate of oak and pastry leads to a lightly spiced, yet full-bodied finish.
ABV: 53%
SRP: $49.99 (750mL)
“Once we perfected the distillate, we focused on the aging modifications that would make this whiskey best-in-class. The lower barrel entry proof of 108 pulls more wood sugars in from the onset, leading to a drinking experience that is elegant and complex.”
Nick Smith, Director of Distillation and Head Distiller for Bardstown Bourbon Co.
