There are occasionally unique things that happen as some whiskeys are being made. But here’s one I bet you haven’t heard. What if you had tens of thousands of gallons of wine that were tainted by smoke from wildfires. Why not make it into brandy and then distill that with heritage strains of local barley and rye to make whiskey.
Patricia Green Cellars in Oregon has done just that. The winery is introducing two new whiskeys, Patty Green Whiskey Distillers Full Pint Barley and Gazelle Rye, that are are a happy result of wildfires in 2020 near the winery southwest of Portland.
The Patty Green Whiskey Distillers whiskeys were aged in wine barrels or other oak barrels from Oregon cooperages.
