I’m still learning about this whole cocktails-in-a-can thing. They’re more sophisticated than I make them sound. You’ve got RTD (ready-to-drink) cocktails for one person. And there are larger RTS (ready-to-serve) cocktails for more than one person. (I guess if you’re drinking the RTS container by yourself, that’s your call.)
My initial thoughts that a serious bourbon drinker might not be the typical consumer of RTD/RTS cocktails are changing. The convenience factor is, well, quite convenient. The work is done and you can take your cocktails anywhere. And the flavor factor keeps getting better and better. The key is this: good bourbon makes good cocktails.
Our friends at Yellowstone Bourbon have some new entries in this category that are really upping the game, whether you plan to be outdoors in a National Park or just your local city park. The new line of Yellowstone ready-to-serve bourbon-based cocktails include Gold Rush (fig, honey, and lemon), Old Fashioned (blood orange, bitters, and cherry), and Espresso (coffee, vanilla, and raisin). They come in resealable and recyclable 750 ml metal containers, with the equivalent of six standard cocktails inside.
“As a company, we are proud of our ongoing commitment to sustainability and our partnership with the National Parks Conservation Association (NPCA),” said Stephan Beam, seventh-generation Master Distiller at Limestone Branch Distillery. “We believe in protecting the lands that inspired our brand, and with the launch of Yellowstone Cocktails, we aim to continue that commitment by offering a product that allows people to enjoy our bourbon in a convenient and eco-conscious way.”
I don’t usually make cocktails at home (too lazy and never seem to have the right ingredients on hand). And I didn’t take the sample of Yellowstone Old Fashioned outdoors like they probably intended. But I’ve had enough Old Fashioneds mixed by professionals to know: Yellowstone has a winner here. Blood orange is an inspired addition to the world’s favorite cocktail.
I can’t wait to see how being outdoors improves the flavor of my next Yellowstone Cocktail even more.
“We created Yellowstone Cocktails to bring the rich character of our bourbon into flavorful, ready-to-serve formats that fit into the on-the-go lifestyle of today’s Consumer. Each expression is designed to highlight the depth and versatility of our whiskey, and offers an effortless way to enjoy a quality cocktail wherever the moment takes you.”
