The Kentucky Distillers’ Association (KDA) announced this week that Benson Valley Bourbon has joined the organization as its newest member.
The Frankfort, Kentucky distillery began in 2022 on historic property along the banks of the Benson Creek that had once been the Old Kennebec Distillery.
“Each day is an opportunity to build upon the rich legacy of our historic grounds,” said Benson Valley Bourbon owner Russ Blakeley. “Joining the KDA was a natural step for our distillery to celebrate the living history of Kentucky bourbon.”
“From honoring the land’s pure ingredients, like tried-and-true limestone spring, to the spirit of the distillery that came before, we look forward to joining the rich community that KDA fosters,” said Blakely.
As a nod to the property’s roots, Benson Valley Bourbon fills 10-steel-hoop-barrels (compared with the six used on most barrels), as the Old Kennebec Distillery used to do.
Benson Valley Bourbon joins the KDA at the Craft membership level, meaning it will produce between one and 1,000 barrels each years. The distillery has produced more than 400 barrels so far, and plans to build warehouses to hold 14,000 barrels.
"It's safe to say that Kentucky Bourbon is Kentucky's greatest story. As Benson Valley Bourbon marries their historic grounds with their new, modern offerings, they serve as a reminder of the rich bourbon legacy that's strengthening our communities: one pour at a time.”
KDA President Eric Gregory
