Leopold Bros. Three Chamber Rye

Leopold Bros. is an independently-owned distillery owned by brothers Scott and Todd Leopold. There is a rich history and a vibrant craftsmanship that goes into every product they make. This is an exciting distillery that is worth exploring.

I have really been looking forward to trying this whiskey. Totally worth the wait.

Nose – Completely different than any whiskey I’ve ever nosed, and I don’t mean that in a bad way. Quite the opposite. Almost zero ethanol. I swear I’m smelling a handful of fresh grains. It takes me back to when I was a kid, and I would “help” my grandpa during harvest. This is the same smell I got while standing out in the field next to the grain truck as my grandpa offloaded the combine. I’m also getting tons of floral, honey and a slight hint of celery at the end. Very complex. I literally can’t quit nosing this glass.

Palate – Just like the nose predicted, you can taste the grain in this. Super floral, fruity, and malty. Amazing mouthfeel. It really coats everything and is almost oily, but again in a good way. There’s virtually no heat, which is crazy from 100-proof whiskey. I’m also getting something sweet up front and again on the end. I have never tasted whiskey like this. The complexity carries throughout the palate as well.

Finish – Still picking up those grains throughout. Very little spice on the palate, but I am getting some very comforting warmth on the finish. A hint of sweet and maltiness as well. The finish goes on for quite some time

In a time when there are more gimmicks than innovations, I was very skeptical of the Leopold Bros. claim that this whiskey is different than anything else on the market. I am happy to report they are 100% right, and my skepticism was completely wrong. This stuff is amazing. There is nothing else out there like this whiskey that I’ve tasted. If you don’t know the story of this amazing, one-of-a-kind whiskey, and the unique three-chamber still, you really should check out Leopold Bros whiskey.
