GenXFest: A benefit for Sweet Relief Musicians Fund with Jacob Givens

Jacob Givens has emerged as one of the defining storytellers of nostalgia in the digital era. A stand‑up comic, actor, writer, and natural-born narrator, he’s best known for his viral reaction videos that showcase his uncanny blend of humor, heart, and musical intuition. Millions have watched him light up as he re‑experiences the riffs, hooks, and emotional punches that shaped a generation. For Gen X, he’s a keeper of the flame, a performer with razor‑sharp timing and a poet’s instinct for memory. He understands that music is more than sound. It’s identity. It’s the scrapbook of who we were and the bridge to who we’ve become. His work resonates because it’s sincere, joyful, and rooted in a deep love for the culture that raised him.

Often recognized as the “90s Music Reaction Guy,” Givens has built a massive global following, and his videos continue to strike emotional chords with viewers around the world.

Recently, I had the chance to sit down with Jacob while filming an upcoming episode of Support Life and Music: Music Survival Guide, set to air in Summer 2026 as part of Season 2. What was meant to be a straightforward shoot quickly turned into a long, winding conversation about the music that shaped us, the shows we survived, and the strange magic of growing up in Southern California. We traded stories like old friends recalling tales of first concerts, late‑night drives soundtracked by mixtapes, and the shared cultural landmarks that only Gen X kids truly understand.

And then, of course, came the revelation that sealed the deal: Jacob loves whiskey. Not casually, but passionately. That alone makes him family in our book. So naturally, we’re already lining up a full interview to dive deeper into his whiskey journey, his palate, and the stories behind the bottles that mean something to him. It’s going to be a good one, and it’s only the beginning.

For those of you here in Southern California, there’s an event on the horizon that you absolutely need to experience. GenXFest lands on Sunday, June 14th at the Regent Theater in Los Angeles, and it’s shaping up to be one of those nights that reminds you exactly why this generation still carries so much cultural fire.

Jacob’s band, Temple of the Dads, has been carving out a reputation across the region for their sharp, heartfelt, and hilariously self‑aware takes on the hits of the 90s. On this special night, they’ll be diving headfirst into the grunge and alternative canon (Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Weezer, The Smashing Pumpkins, and more) all delivered with the kind of authenticity only lifelong fans can muster. And because it’s GenXFest, expect a few surprise guests to jump onstage for a song or two. Maybe more. That’s the beauty of this scene: you never know who’s going to walk out of the wings.

GenXFest is going to be a great moment reliving the soundtrack of our youth and it is a chance to give back. This year’s event benefits Sweet Relief Musicians Fund, an organization dedicated to supporting musicians in need. The very people who’ve filled our lives with meaning, memory, and melody. It’s a night built on a purpose: a celebration of the artists who shaped us and a chance to help those still fighting to keep the music alive.
