Whiskey Releases Of The Week – 1/26/24

Here’s a look at a few of the new whiskey releases announced this week. 

Green River Distilling Co.

Kentucky Straight Rye Whiskey

Green River Distilling Co. has rolled out its fourth new product, Kentucky Straight Rye Whiskey. The Owensboro, Kentucky distillery is expanding its reach into eight new markets, bring the total to 34 states where you can purchase Green River products.

SRP: $34.99
ABV: 47.5%
Mashbill: 95% rye and 5% malted barley
Age: 4 to 6 years
Availability: Soon to be 34 states nationwide.

Tasting Notes (from the distillery):
  • A distinct taste that leads with orange peel and fresh spearmint, that rise through the vanilla and graham cracker base notes.
  • A sound and medium finish offers slight rye spice, herbal tea, and soft oak notes.

Buzzard’s Roost

New American Whiskey

 Buzzard’s Roost Sipping Whiskey added New American Whiskey to its portfolio of bourbon and rye whiskies this week. Buzzard’s Roost uses Char#1 barrels for secondary aging of this sourced whiskey.

ABV: 52.5%
Mashbill: 75% corn, and 21% rye, and 4% malted barley
Age: 3 years
Availability: 20 U.S. markets and Canada, online, and Buzzard’s Roost Whiskey Row Experience in Louisville.

Tasting Notes (from the distillery):
  • Aromas of roasted almonds, cola, cinnamon and a hint of orange zest.
  • On the palate, it’s all vanilla wafers, roasted almonds, zingy cinnamon candies, and a splash of orange soda.

Woodford Reserve

Double Double Oaked 

Lots of buzz this week for Woodford Reserve’s new Double Double Oaked Bourbon for 2024. The distillery says the “annual series that celebrates Master Distiller Elizabeth McCall’s commitment to innovation and craftsmanship.”

SRP: $79.99 per 350 ml bottle
ABV: 45.2%
Mashbill: 75% corn, and 21% rye, and 4% malted barley
Age: Fully matured Woodford Reserve plus one year in heavily-toasted, lightly-charred new oak barrel.
Availability: In person sales only, at the Woodford Reserved Distillery in Versailles, Kentucky. Limit two 350 ml bottles.

Tasting Notes (from the distillery):
  • Color: Roasted coffee bean
  • Aroma: A robust medley of rich maple syrup, dark butterscotch, brittle caramel, bittersweet chocolate, burnt marshmallow and sweet hickory smoke notes dominate the nose.
  • Taste: Rich dried cherry and cranberry fruit swim in a blackberry jam brightened with hints of ripe apple. Chai tea and warming clove notes develop to spice up the palate.
  • Finish: Warm and drying with a lingering clove character.
