Frozen Rations

Don’t panic, an authentic ration of Lemon Hart & Son rum would never actually freeze. And yes, this legendary rum provider was the inaugural appointment to the British Royal Navy from the Admiralty in the 1790’s. So it’s really no surprise that this historic Guyana-distilled, Demerara-style overproof rum was specified in Donn the Beachcomber and Trader Vic’s cocktail recipes dating back to the mid 20th century. But that’s another legend, for another time.

Right now, I want to share a delicious blended cocktail, using fresh (or frozen) mango puree, coconut, lime juice, plus (feature this) Lemon Hart & Son 151 Overproof Rum by floating it on top. Yes, the proof is high; it’s supposed to be. And despite the high proof, I encourage you to taste this rum neat. The deep complexities of the Demerara sugar intertwined with their select barrel aging, delivers a ridiculously enjoyable flavor bomb. Or should I say cannon fire, to tip the hat to the original consumers?

Cheers to absent friends and those at sea!
