WhiskyFest NYC 2024

WhiskyFest is my favorite event of the year! On November 20, 2024, I made my way to the Marriott Marquis anticipating yet another grand event.

As we were standing in the VIP line waiting for the doors to open, I had many interesting conversations with the whiskey enthusiasts waiting with me. There was the car collector who was with his son-in-law. He told me about the many cars in an offsite garage. Just so you know, his favorites are the Lamborghini and the Porsche. There was another person who worked for the Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA). A few had come in from Connecticut, but most were from New York.

All of the attendees were excited for the evening that was about to unfold. Regardless of where they were from or what hobbies/jobs they had, the common denominator was sharing whiskey with friends and family. We all agreed it is plain and simple: whiskey unites people regardless of age, gender, or politics.

Of course, it is always a great time seeing many old friends from the many Metro NY local whiskey clubs, as well as speaking with so many from within the industry.

Here are my favorite pours of the evening:

Heaven Hill 18 – So much mouth feel! So much flavor!

Jacobs Pardon – Easy to be perceived as much lower proof. This is an excellent example of light whiskey presented at a cask strength (71.35% ABV).

There were a few unexpected surprises that I sampled:

Jaisalmer Gin – Excellent neat with so much flavor. The botanical aromas and flavors work so well together! I will search for and buy a bottle.

Bubba’s Pancakes and Bacon – Bubba has infused its whiskey with pancakes and bacon flavor. It is surprisingly affordable and I enjoyed this pour.

At WhiskyFest 2024, I enjoyed everything I sampled. So much fantastic whiskey, so many great people. Of course, you can’t forget the bountiful array of food to sample (both hot and cold). If you must know, my favorite was the sliced steak and onion rings.

Circulating through the event, it proved to be a super friendly crowd. Everyone I spoke to was having a great time and that is all that matters. For me, I entered at 5:30 p.m. and left when the light flickered for the last call at 9:30 p.m.: those 4 hours went by so quickly.

See you next year, WhiskyFest New York!

Cheers!
