The simple act of browning some butter before washing your bourbon will cause you to develop quite a crush on the addictive caramel-flavored spirit that comes of it. For this one we were given some Danish Creamery European Style butter to experiment with, and it transformed the bourbon into a caramel flavored treat. No sugar needed and no carbs for those counting.

Caramel Apple Crush
Equipment
- Cocktail Mixing Glass
- Hawthorne Strainer
- Saucepan
- Coffee filter or fine mesh strainer
- Juicer or blender
Ingredients
- 2.5 oz Browned Butter Washed Bourbon
- 1 oz Fresh Apple Syrup
- Apple slices for garnish (dipped in caramel optional)
Instructions
- Add Browned Butter Washed Bourbon and Fresh Apple Syrup to cocktail mixing glass
- Add ice to cocktail glass and stir till well chilled
- Strain cocktail into a rocks glass over a fresh ice
- Garnish with fresh apple slices

Tip: dip apples in lemon water to avoid browning
Browned Butter Washed Bourbon
Ingredients
- 12 oz Bourbon
- 1 stick Danish Creamery European Style Butter, salted
Instructions
- Place butter in a saucepan over medium-high heat, stirring regularly
- The butter will melt, then boil, bubble and foam releasing the moisture
- Remove from heat when it smells nutty and you see the color change to deep golden(this should take about 5 minutes)
- Let cool for 5 minutes, then add the whiskey, and stir to incorporate
- Pour mixture into an airtight container, and place in the freezer for 24 hours
- Strain using a paper coffee filter (preferred) or fine mesh strainer into an airtight container
- Store in refrigerator
Fresh Apple Syrup
Ingredients
- 0.5 cup Fresh apple juice (Granny Smith preferred, I used 2 medium/large apples)
- 0.5 cup Sugar
- 0.5 cup Boiling water
- 0.25 tsp Vanilla Extract
Instructions
- For the freshest apple juice, you can blend 2 apples with a little water and strain
- In a mixing bowl, combine the sugar and boiling water, stir to incorporate
- Add the fresh apple juice and vanilla extract
- Pour into an airtight container
- Chill for use in cocktails and store in the refrigerator
