Smoky Paloma

If you are reading this Whiskey Network post, there is a very good chance that you appreciate a smoky flavor profile. Even if you prefer bourbon and rye over Scotch, I am sure that you enjoy having your Old Fashioned freshly smoked tableside. Not to mention that all of our favorite Whisky(ey)s, are rested in a charred barrel, and where there’s smoke, there’s fire, am I right?

So come with me on a little side quest to sample a smoky profile spirit, Mezcal. And not just any Mezcal, a remarkable artisan-distilled spirit made with traditional horse drawn tahona (heavy stone) crushing, and natural open wooden vat fermenting. Let’s reach for a bottle of Historias y Memorias Mezcal Artesanal Espadin Joven. A Mezcal with a beautiful light smokiness, bright citrus notes, and a creamy mouth feel. This is a great sipper, but also lends itself to a perfect Smoky Paloma. And although Squirt was the original mixer for this cocktail, we should use fresh grapefruit juice to properly highlight this hand-crafted spirit.

While this cocktail can be enjoyed anywhere and anytime, imagine enjoying your next brunch meal with a Smoky Paloma in hand. Step aside Mimosas. Mezcal, get on deck!
